A pensioner had her arms broken and skull fractured when she was hit by a van on the A27 in Worthing yesterday (Wednesday August 21).

Police are appealing for witnesses after the 80-year-old woman was struck on the A27 near its junction with Shandon Road, close to Lyons Farm, shortly after 4pm.

She was taken to Southampton General Hospital with a fractured skull, two broken arms and internal injuries.

The woman, from Broadwater, was hit by a white Volkswagen Transporter and fell backwards, banging her head on a wall.

The 38-year-old driver from Woodingdean was not hurt.

The westbound carriageway of the road had to be closed for more than three hours while the victim was treated and the scene was cleared.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the crash happen or the victim or van in the moments beforehand.
