A single line of bricks several metres high is all that remains of a well known 1930s building.
Contractors have spent the last month demolishing the majority of the old Co-op store in London Road, Brighton. All that remains is the original façade which will be preserved as part of a new development.
The project, which will include rooms for more than 350 students, disabled parking spaces, 150 cycle racks and shops, is due to be completed by the end of this year.
Developers Fresh Student Living are partners on the scheme with the University of Sussex, which will allocate students to the building for the 2014/15 academic year.
