Two university graduates are hoping to build successful careers after scooping top architecture awards.
Chris Poulson and Wan Ning Oon, both of whom studied at the University of Brighton, were recognised by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
Chris, a Faculty of Arts archi- tecture candidate, won a RIBA prize for excellence and also previously received the diploma prize from the university for his study of the City of London.
His work included a proposal for adapting an office block on the north bank of the River Thames into housing and community use.
Judges described his project as "a very complete and considered presentation which illustrated a very comprehensive understanding of the design process through to the final completed design, which retained the strength of the original concept.
“The presentation illustrated a very articulate and detailed design process.”
Chris worked for Brighton- based RS Design, before joining the London office of Pringle Brandon Perkins & Will.
Wan Ning also received a RIBA prize for the excellence of her work and was given the university’s degree prize for her project focusing on a wig factory in East London.
Judges described the project as “the very detailed and comprehensive development of an idea and thought process.
“The depth of the presentation was a delight.”
The RIBA student prizes judges were Mike Lawless of LA Architects, who is chairman of the south east region of RIBA, Tony Foulger of Brighton and Hove City Council, who is chairman of RIBA’s Sussex branch, and Andy Parsons of Yelo Architects in Brighton.
