IMPORTANT NEWS
I would like to stress that I have been made aware through word of mouth of further Vehicle Crime incidents that have occurred this month but have not been reported as nothing was taken. This however is still a crime and MUST be reported to the Police officially. If incidents such as these are not reported to us, then we are not receiving an accurate figure of how many occurrences there have been and also, if we don’t know about it - there is nothing we can do!
At the beginning of May, Fitch Drive suffered an overnight spate of attempted garage break-ins. It is believed that approximately 6-8, possibly more, were tried. Only two of these were reported to the Police. A resident in Fitch Drive was kind enough to report that even though their garage was not involved, many had been affected. Only one garage was entered, nothing was taken, however there was some damage to the vehicle inside and also the window of the garage. It is not known who the culprits were at this time. Unfortunately, nothing was seen or heard by residents and there is no Police CCTV in that area. I can only encourage the residents of Bevendean to continue to report any incidents that occur to them or in their areas. I also urge residents to be vigilant and do their part in the prevention of crime. It can be as simple as making sure your vehicle, home and windows are secure when you leave them. Many offenders are opportunists. Open windows, doors and vehicles are an invitation to those offenders who will try their luck.
I fully appreciate some residents feel concerned about ringing the Police and fear anything coming back to them. However I can assure you your calls are extremely important to us and are treated with the utmost confidence and security. You may even stay anonymous if you wish. I’d like to thank everyone who has continued to report incidents to the Police.
Anti Social Behaviour
At the Bevendean Local Action Team meeting in May, we spoke about the ASB issues that had been occurring in Fitch Drive. The first step I took was to try and tackle these issues, find out how residents are feeling and what has been happening in their area, I posted ASB Matrix forms to every address in Fitch Drive. These forms give residents the opportunity to tell the Police when, where, how and what types of ASB have been occurring in their area. I believed this would give me a better picture of exactly what had been happening in Fitch Drive and therefore how to go about tackling it. Unfortunately, I only received two replies out of a possible 80. One of which was not relevant to the ASB that was discussed at the last L.A.T. Sussex Police cannot act upon information they do not have. I regret that we can not take this issue any further but will welcome any further information regarding any Anti Social Behaviour not only in Fitch Drive but across all of Bevendean.
