The steering group has been working hard to make the possibility of a Community Centre for Bevendean a reality – and we may be closer than we realised!                                                                                            Unfortunately, it has taken a long time for the transfer of the original lease from the “Holy Nativity Church” to the “Holy Nativity Community Centre Management Committee, (HNCCMC)”.  (I bet you didn’t even know there was one!)  The lease has to be re-written and agreed between the Church Solicitor and the “Community” Solicitor (TDC).  Until this is completed we are unable to fundraise for major projects.

At the same time the HNCCMC has also, sadly, had to come to terms with the fact that the cost of the original project is now too high and that there are no large sums of money available in the current financial climate. Therefore we have decided to downsize the project. This all sounds rather gloomy BUT, we’ve   realised we already have a vibrant working Community/Community Centre!  A few things that are going on are: Tai Chi; Women’s Institute; Local Action Team; Action for Bevendean Community;  History Project; BevFest; Bevendean Down; Parent Teacher Association; “What’s on  Locally” board; Yoga; Community Café every Wednesday morning; Fare Share Food Bank; Community Garden; Weddings; Spiral; and also lots of Parties.                                                                                                                                We feel the way forward now is to update and modernise existing facilities.  In the “Old Church” there is the Main Hall – now called “The Barn” – which needs a new kitchen; new toilets, including a disability toilet; new doors.... the list is endless: but if we can  improve the facilities that we already have, then we are already up and running!                                                                            The challenge now is to raise the money to take this forward. We are already exploring how this can be done, but would also welcome any offers of support from you in the community – and if there are any local businesses and  others interested in donating either their time or materials please contact me, Barbara Trott via email b.trott@sky.com.
