I have many heroes in the Arts Industry, including actors, musicians and artists. Today I’m going to talk about writer, director and producer, Eric Kripke.
Eric Kripke is probably best known for the creation of two of the most popular American TV shows, ‘Supernatural’ and more recently ‘Revolution’. He was also an Associate Producer for the 2011 film ‘The Adjustment Bureau’.
Eric was born in Toledo, Ohio and grew up making home movies to share with his friends. In 1996 he graduated from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and was soon penning and directing his own short movies.
Kripke had always had an interest in Urban Legend and had always wanted to create a series that explored it, the result of which was Supernatural. Supernatural is an American drama that focuses on brothers Sam and Dean Winchester as they travel state to state in their Chevy Impala and fight the forces of the... supernatural!
Almost every episode of Supernatural has been at least partially written by Kripke and his team of mythologists and co-writers. Supernatural first aired in the US in 2005 and eight seasons later it’s still watched by many, and adored by its fandom.
Kripke presented the idea for Revolution to world-renowned producer J.J Abrahams and the series was soon in production. The series premiered in America last year and premiered here in the UK in January this year. Revolution primarily follows the Matheson family fifteen years after the power went out for good and their fight against Dictator Sebastian Monroe of the ruthless Monroe Militia.
I think Eric Kripke is amazing, because it takes an outstanding imagination to come up with such unique and exciting ideas for a TV show.
