I cannot believe Brighton and Hove City Council has been investigating Councillor Dawn Barnett for questioning the care of an elderly person (The Argus, August 7).
These are among the most vulnerable people in society and it has been proven time and time again that protocol and procedures are not always enough to protect them.
Unannounced visits are essential and cannot be intrusive or intimidating if there is nothing to hide.
We should herald Dawn as a champion for the elderly, not penalise her.
Wake up Brighton and Hove City Council and follow her example, please.

We were appalled to read about Councillor Barnett.
We are a small over-50s club which meets weekly at Hangleton Community Centre.
Most of our members cannot praise Coun Barnett highly enough for her work.
She even arranges a most enjoyable Christmas lunch for us every year.
It is a pity more people can’t follow her example of being a caring person, concerned about older people who cannot always fight their own battles.
It is sad that such a valued member of our community is being investigated instead of being congratulated.
Olive Davey, on behalf of the Hangleton Get Together Club
