BBC presenter Nicholas Owen will relaunch Amberley Museum’s locomotive Polar Bear on its return to steam on July 13 at 3pm.
Polar Bear was built in 1905 for the Isle of Man’s Groudle Glen Railway, alongside a sister locomotive Sea Lion. It ferried tourists to a zoo.
For many years the little line was popular but it gradually declined and Polar Bear was in a parlous state.
The line closed in 1962 and Polar Bear found its way to Amberley, steaming again in 1983. However in 2010 the boiler came to the end of its working life.
Volunteers at Amberley raised over £10,000 to restore Polar Bear, which will be displayed at a rail gala next weekend.
