A high speed police chase across 45 miles on the A27 left four members of a family hospitalised.

The car, believed to be stolen, was driven at up to 100mph according to reports, including about 10 miles on the wrong side of the A27.

The car was driving so dangerously, Sussex Police took the decision to stop pursuing the VW Passat.

Instead, they informed Hampshire Police as the vehicle sped towards the border.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle near Emsworth at around 8.40pm last night.

But as the vehicle was stopped, it crashed into another car travelling in the opposite direction, resulting in four members of a family being injured and requiring hospital treatment.

Superintendent Di Roskilly said: "Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured in this incident, but many people witnessed this car driving extremely dangerously and at high speeds along a busy road and opn occasions on the wrong side of the road.

"We have arrested one man but suspects are still being sought. Anyone with information or anyone who witnessed about this incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 1434 of 8/6."
