Brighton pop star Conor Maynard will be performing at the city’s newest one-day festival.

The 20-year-old will be at SD2 at Stanmer Park on Sunday, September 29.

Also on the bill will be girl group The Saturdays and boy band The Wanted.

And organisers promise more groups are yet to be announced as the “UK’s biggest pop acts go to the seaside”.

Conor rose to fame posting videos on internet site YouTube, covering pop hits, before winning MTV’s Brand New 2012 award.

He studied at K-BIS Theatre School in Brighton’s Cumberland Road and starred in Peter Pan at the Theatre Royal Brighton when he was nine.

He is often compared to Justin Bieber, the young Canadian international pop sensation who also rose to fame after his videos were spotted on YouTube.

Organisers of SD2, who also put on the Shakedown festival in the city, said they are sure Conor “will be a huge hit in front of a hometown crowd”.

SD2 promoter Steve Jones said: “It’s always great to see local talent become such a huge success all over the world and we’re incredibly proud to host Conor's huge homecoming gig in Brighton at SD2.”

Also confirmed for the festival are multi-platinumselling girl band The Saturdays, who have scored 11 top ten singles, including hits like All Fired Up and Higher.

Headlining the festival will be The Wanted, performing hits including All Time Low, Glad You Came, Heart Vacancy and Lose My Mind.

Described as having “ferociously infectious tunes, rock solid friendship and laddish charms” which have “stamped all over the typical boy band mould” the group’s set is “guaranteed to be a euphoric affair” in their only appearance in Sussex for 2013.

SD2 promoterMatt Priest said: “We're delighted to launch SD2 to Brighton and Sussex.

“We have assembled some of the best pop acts the UK has to offer.

“The Wanted are a global phenomenon and The Saturdays have established themselves as the country’s biggest girl band.”

The tickets for the festival will go on sale tomorrow at 9am, costing £34.50 including a booking fee.

A free bus back service back to Brighton or park and ride will be available when SD2 finishes.
