Tonight I went to see Fringe Film, a more off-beat little Fringe event hosted by Otherplace productions at Upstairs at Three and Ten. Fringe Film is a great idea – screening short films on themes such as comedy and documentary.
As the lights went down I realized that my guest and I were the only audience members there, something which is actually rare at Brighton Fringe compared to other large Fringe Festivals – it seems like the events here have the right balance of competing for and catering to their audiences.
The Fringe Film theme tonight was Art and we were initially treated to some toe curling footage of thighs being hovered and public hair set alight. The rest of the short films then flicked from the sublime to absurd to pretentious. There was some incredible animation and some dubious text set to music. A completely mixed bag.
The last couple of nights have been very enjoyable – going from running my own Fringe event, You Left Me in the Dark, to seeing a late night show. The experience reminds me of Edinburgh Fringe, I am definitely having a much more total encounter with Brighton Fringe this year. This blog is an amazing opportunity to see the weird and wonderful, the creative and the catastrophic!
