A huge search and rescue operation was sparked after a man dialled 999 to say he had taken an overdose.
He called the emergency services at 1.30am yesterday, saying he was lost on the beach near Eastbourne.
Both the Newhaven and Eastbourne RNLI crews searched, while coastguard officers scoured the clifftops and police checked inland.
The person was eventually found at 3am in Eastbourne town centre. His condition is not thought to be serious.
