A man jailed for stealing £200,000 of jewellery from football boss Jose Mourinho’s hotel room was previously imprisoned for killing a Sussex dental nurse.

Jamie Filan – who ran over Michelle Dever in Lancing in 2006 – broke into a room at the five-star Wyndham Grand Hotel in Chelsea where the manager was staying with his wife Matilde and 16 year-old daughter, Tita.

Mourinho was away on business on March 27 this year when Filan, jailed for 31 months at Southwark Crown Court, raided the suite. The 32-year-old took a Cartier pendant, earrings and a ring worth £51,450, which the manager had given to his wife.

It comes just seven years after Filan, who was then living in Lanfranc Road, Worthing, killed Miss Denver. She was 30 and working at Shoreham Dental Centre when she was hit by a blue Ford Fiesta driven by Filan, who did not have a licence or insurance, on February 2, 2006.

She was knocked down and left for dead as she crossed the road near her beachfront home in Brighton Road.

Filan and his heavily pregnant wife, Louise, who was in the car at the time, drove off and tried to cover up the crime by dumping the car at Beach Green, less than a mile away.

They told police the car had been stolen but were found out because they had locked it when they abandoned it.

In February 2007, Filan was jailed for three years by a judge at Chichester Crown Court for perverting the course of justice, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving without a licence or insurance.
