In response to a letter in The Argus of May 11, I felt I had to write to you.

I have been living in Brighton for six years and invited a friend from the North to visit me.

I was actually embarrassed with all the litter piling high in the streets and even dumped outside businesses.

The Argus has often addressed litter issues, especially when it is left on the beach, but the issue is obviously still ongoing.

I would never walk my dog on the beach due to broken glass and discarded barbecues.

When visiting other places in the UK, such as the West Country or the North, the litter is not as bad as this. Brighton is a tourist spot and litter leaves a bad impression for visitors.

The Government should bring in a penalty for people who leave their litter on the beach, such as voluntary work or a fine, before the litter issue gets worse.
