Action Gran Shirley Price, who has raised thousands of pounds for charity by taking part in a number of hair-raising birthday stunts, has received her MBE from Prince Charles.

Mrs Price, from Bodle Street Green, near Hailsham, was named in the New Year’s Honours list for her services to charity.

She was accompanied to Buckingham Palace by her son, Ian Fletcher-Price from Eastbourne, daughter Clare Martin who lives at South Chailey, and 11-year-old granddaughter Georgie Martin.

Mrs Price said: “It was a truly memorable day and I was so pleased to be able to share it with some of my family.

“Georgie, in particular, will remember it for the rest of her life, and not just for the experience of visiting Buckingham Palace.

“She also got to meet and talk to some of her Olympic heroes such as swimmer Ellie Simmonds, rower Katherine Copeland and taekwondo gold medallist Jade Jones, who were also there receiving their awards.”

Mrs Price has spent years working with and raising money for, among others, the East Sussex Association of Blind and Partially Sighted People (ESAB) and the Herons Ghyll Carriage Driving for the Disabled Group.

Last year she celebrated her 80th birthday with a sponsored skydive at Headcorn Airfield, Kent.

Five years previously she had travelled at speeds of up to 140mph strapped to the wings of a Boeing Stearman biplane.
