A former Sussex student has been appointed only the second woman to head a prestigious academy in its 228-year history.
Laura Mahoney, 39, who studied at the University of Sussex, has been appointed the chief executive of the Royal Irish Academy.
The organisation is Ireland’s academy for scholarship in the sciences, humanities and social sciences.
