I am a male exhibitor at one of the Artist’s Open Houses at the County Ground for cricket in Hove.
I decided to dress up for the private view.
I was wearing an Italian-made grey sports jacket, a black polka-dot shirt, a brown tie with a small dotted pattern, light grey trousers and black Chelsea boots. This is smart, casual clothing.
What I did notice was that quite a few of the women immediately saw I had made the effort to dress up and warmed to me for doing so.
My guess would be that what this is all about is the fact that a large number of men in our modern day British culture are reluctant to concede the idea of dressing up for women.
As a layman, I am out of my depth in trying to understand the causes of this phenomenon but perhaps this represents a straw in the wind about the nature of our modern day society.
