In 2006, along with hundreds of residents, I opposed locating the waste transfer and recycling centre in Hollingdean because of concerns about traffic, noise and other environmental impact on this residential area.
We argued a site further from homes could be found.
Although we lost that campaign, at least the council put restrictions on the site’s use at weekends and bank holidays to give nearby residents some relief.
Back in 2006, Green councillors were also opposed. But now they run the council, the Greens want to scrap those restrictions because they are extending their communal bins scheme.
This will bring yet more disturbance and inconvenience to residents of Hollingdean and Roundhill, as reported in The Argus on May 6.
Once again the Greens are letting down people in Hollingdean and Roundhill. I will be opposing their plans.
Councillor Jeane Lepper, Labour and Co-operative Group, Brighton and Hove City Council
