Fishing heritage received a nod from on high during a traditional seafront ceremony.
As part of the Mackerel Fayre on Brighton seafront, Father Mark Lyons, of St Paul’s, in West Street, Brighton, carried out the annual blessing of the nets ceremony.
This annual event, which was held outside Brighton Fishing Museum, is a reminder of the historic roots of Brighton as a small fishing village before the Prince Regent made the area fashionable.
Music was played by the Salvation Army Brass Band, and Brighton and Hove mayor Bill Randall opened the event on Saturday.
It was sponsored by Brighton and Hove City Council and the Brighton Fishing Quarter.
