Thank you for publishing my letter advocating a vegan diet (May 3), which attracted many comments on your website.
Some say that consuming animal products is legal and hence irreproachable.
Slavery, marital rape and child labour were legal.
Therefore, I am puzzled how anyone can equate what is legal with what is right.
Some say that only factory farming is wrong. There is no such thing as “happy” meat or humanely-produced dairy and eggs. Animals still suffer and meet horrific deaths in the slaughterhouse.
Finally, others claim that a vegan diet is unhealthy.
Nutritional experts, the American Dietetic Association, says that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.
