A contract to design two libraries is up for grabs. East Sussex County Council is looking for firms with experience of ground- breaking and interior design of libraries and public spaces.
The new Newhaven Library is a for- mer retail premises in the High Street with 400 square metres of public space- for an expanded library, meeting rooms, dedicated facilities for children and young people along with access to public network computers and learning opportunities for the local community. Seaford Library is a new building under construction with approximately 640 square metres of public space providing public access computers, meeting rooms, dedicated facilities for children and young people, event space and café.
The council wants up to eight compa- nies to bid for the contract which will run from July 1 to February 28.
A council spokesman said: “Award cri- teria will be based on a combination of both technical and commercial capability and best value. The design will create bright, dynamic, modern and stylish environments which appeal to existing users and encourage new users. The shelving and display furniture should provide flexible spaces which reflect current use of libraries. The contracts will include the design and installation of shelving, display furniture and benching. Flooring, loose furniture and equipment will be supplied by others.”
