Excitment is building as Brighton and Hove Albion supporters are getting ready for the play-offs and the chance for the Seagulls to enter the top flight of English football.
Stuart Adams, A21 Supporters Club, said the current side was the best since 1979, claiming the team strolled to victory in second gear.
He added: “I don’t know that fans want Palace.
“Everybody would want it if we knew we would win but if we lost to them in the play-offs, it would be the worst ever, it would be unbearable.”
Saturday’s opponents Wolves’ last game ended in angry scenes when fans invaded the pitch and caused damage to their own dugout and advertising hoardings after defeat all but confirmed a second successive relegation for the West Midlands club.
Mr Adams said: “I think that Wolves fans will come down in large numbers and will be unhappy and will want to make an opportunity to make a show.
“I am sure they will be well policed but we definitely don’t want them on our pitch.”
Different arena
Paul Samrah, who led the Falmer For All campaign, said fans must not get carried away with thoughts of Wembley just yet.
He said: “The Premiership from when we were last at that level is a completely different arena, the finances are just phenomenal and so is the television exposure so you can see why civic leaders are getting behind it.
“But let’s not run before we can walk.
“We have got three matches to play and hopefully if we get it right a fourth one beckons.
“We are probably going to be more relaxed than any of the other top teams apart from probably Cardiff on Saturday but it’s important we keep momentum and avoid injuries or suspensions.”
City-wide boost
Politicians have also welcomed Brighton and Hove Albion's passage into the playoffs, claiming it as a boost for the whole city.
Brighton and Hove City Council leader Jason Kitcat said: “Obviously it's brilliant news for the team but it's also great news for the city.
“I think it's symbolic with the way the city is moving.
“What with Whitehawk FC already gaining promotion and looking to change its name, all this sporting success is fantastic news and I'm backing Albion all the way.”
Fingers crossed
Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby, who is a season ticket holder at The Amex, said: “It's fantastic news for the city.
“Obviously I have my fingers crossed and hope that we can make it.
“I have always said that if you want to be classed as a world class city then you need to have a football team that's going places.
“It's one of those things that makes Brighton and Hove such a special place.”
Hove MP Mike Weatherley said: “I can’t speak highly enough of the Albion management and players who have done so much over the past few years to make every fan’s dream a reality.
“We now need to hold our nerve and really see it through. I can’t wait.”
Play-off tickets are on sale now.
