People have been coming forward to praise a former headteacher’s work.
Malvina Sanders was forced to retire as headteacher of Cardinal Newman Catholic School this month after a bout of ill health.
We asked Argus readers to recall their favourite moments of her time at the school, which spanned 17 years.
Councillor Trevor Alford said: “I think that Malvina Sanders filled the boots of the excellent Peter Evans extremely well. Ms Sanders was a super head of a fantastic school. My family and I can only wish her well for the future.”
Richard Partridge, a parent and former governor at Ringmer Community College, where Mrs Sanders was deputy head before joining Cardinal Newman, said: “In her relatively short time at Ringmer, Malvina conveyed her zest and enthusiasm for all aspects of education to both staff and students at the college.
“She was full of ideas and it was hard not to be drawn into her innovative ideas and the new dimension she brought to us.
"We were very sorry to lose her, but, of course, delighted that she was appointed head at Cardinal Newman, where she clearly flourished and achieved so much.
“Please pass on my good wishes to Malvina in her retirement.”
Jim Browning said: “A well respected member of the education community, but more importantly a great person.”
Web commenter El Duderino said: “Sad to hear this. She was a great teacher when I was there, no-nonsense approach to bad behaviour but a very nice lady, even if she did give me a few detentions.”
Mrs Sanders has been replaced by Dr James Kilmartin, who has been acting deputy headteacher in her absence over the past 15 months.
