Non-league football rarely makes the national newspapers.
But Ryman Premier League strugglers Lewes FC have bucked that trend – thanks to marketing manager Charlie Dobres.
The joint director is behind the club’s now famous matchday posters.
Having built up a cult following locally, the posters have recently appeared in the Independent, the Daily Mail and the Sunday Times.
This season has seen the likes of a mock-up of the Bayeux Tapestry for the game against Hastings and a Soviet woman wearing a Lewes scarf for the Mothers’ Day match.
Mr Dobres added: “My recent favourite has to be the poster for the Met Police match.
“I used the famous Banksy image of two policemen kissing. It was a really popular one and they took it in good spirit.
“It’s all good fun but ultimately the reason I do it is to get more fans through the gates.
“We had over 500 for the recent Canvey Island game so hopefully it is working.”
