UP to 100 women are expected to take part in a choreographed dance flash mob in the centre of the city in a protest against violence to women.

The choreographed dance moves to music by Tina Turner will take place in two secret city centre locations today as part of global protests.

The protesters will rehearse their moves for two hours before the demonstration in Brighton, which are being led by community group Brighton Dance Flash Mob, who are taking part in their 19th flash mob.

The protest, which is part of the global One Billion Rising campaign, which claims that one in three women will be the victim of beating or rape in their lifetime, is also being supported by Brighton and Hove City Council, Sussex Police and Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas.

The campaign was debated in Parliament on Thursday and featured a flash mob at the centre of the country’s democratic seat, which featured Hollywood star Thandie Newton.

Tina Turner has been chosen as the soundtrack to the protest because of her alleged violent relationship with musician Ike Turner.

The Brighton campaign is being led by Madelaine Hunter, who was a victim of an abusive partner.

She said: “I was in an emotionally abusive relationship but fortunately didn’t have a lot of violence.

“The thing that shocked me afterwards was that I didn’t realise that I was in that type of relationship.”
