This is the first snow we have had since early 2011, and thus the first time the Greens have had to deal with the white stuff.

Brighton and Hove City Council did well in gritting the roads.

However, they fell at the first hurdle around Mile Oak, for want of a snow plough. This meant that from noon last Friday there were no buses in or out of Mile Oak.

In my view, Portslade Aldridge Community Academy could have remained open if the bus service had been running.

The fact is it was more dangerous to walk on the pavements on Monday than it was the previous Friday, when the show was fresh.

Perhaps a fee could be paid to a local farmer to help out with a plough attachment to his tractor?

Meanwhile, there are calls for councillor wages – effectively seeking a pay rise – when the same council cries poverty when it comes to basic urban snow clearance for genuine health and safety reasons.
