Dr Walters was an incredible consultant. On a routine first meeting with him for juvenile arthritis during my teens, he discovered what two GP's had determined to be a seasonal cough , to infact be a collapsed lung, pericarditis and pneumonia. He admitted me straight away to hospital saving my life. After I recovered he discussed with me a relatively unknown condition at the time that he suspected I had which was SLE/Lupus. He set me on the path to treatment where again I would have risked further serious illness/fatality and misdiagnosis for years otherwise. I was so fortunate for an early diagnosis and for his continued support during my major flare ups. Any time I would be admitted to hospital of his own accord he would come and visit me and intruct the nursing team on what I needed or what wasn't good enough and preventing escalation in my condition or risk of infection. I am now in my forties. And a parent of 2 children. Neither of these things would have materialised without his input and I am eternally grateful to him. I would like the family to know how gifted and kind and wonderful he was, not just as a family man that i have no doubt he would have been, but also as a professional and with his patients. I was so sad to hear of his passing. Sincere condolences to his family for this huge loss x Nadine Beal
