Derek George Frederick Leney Former BBC Sussex and Argus Boxing Correspondent. Peacefully passed away on 21st October 2023, aged 92 years. Sadly missed by Christine, Colin, Nicola, Russell and family. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday 7 November at 11.00, Woodvale Crematorium, North Chapel, Lewes Road, Brighton BN2 3QB, followed by a burial at the Lawn Memorial Cemetery at Woodingdean. Donations, if so desired to Blind Veterans UK may be sent to the Funeral Directors at the address below Arthur Denyer Funeral Directors, 18-19 Lewes Road, Brighton, East Sussex BN2 3HP

As an amateur boxer in the 1960/70s based in Surrey Derek provided many reports on my bouts, particularly championship fights. His generous praise was a tremendous boost and source of encouragement.

Derek you were and always will be a legend in Sussex boxing circles. I will never forget the encouragement you gave me when I started sports reporting for BBC Radio Brighton. My memories of watching some of the bouts are still fresh in my mind. I'm very sorry that I can't attend your funeral but my thoughts will be with your family on Tuesday. RIP. David Bennett
