Modern theatre-goers are a canny breed, unlikely to be scared by stage trickery or a mere spook story.
So it's considerably to the credit of the acclaimed production The Woman in Black that after almost two decades on London's West End it can still elicit screams from an audience.
Simply staged, the play tells of Arthur Kipps' quest to free himself from a curse cast over him and his family by a mysterious woman in black. Sceptical of the story, a young actor determines to help Kipps exorcise his demon by performing his story, but neither can predict the spine-tingling consequences.
