Detroit disco-garage rockers Electric Six shot into the UK charts in 2003 with a double whammy of their cover of Danger! High Voltage and the tongue-in-cheek Gay Bar.
The six-piece has found it hard to match that early success, but it hasn’t stopped them releasing five further albums, the latest being this year’s KILL.
As the band’s MySpace admits: “Electric Six is done trying to not sound like their first record Fire.
“Electric Six wants to sound like their first record Fire. Electric Six wants big loud guitars and fuzz basses intertwined with the occasional r ’n’ b jam.
“However, Electric Six has been to Estonia. Electric Six has been to Chile. Electric Six belongs to a food co-op and Electric Six works out at the gym. Can it really go to that place?”
The resulting album combines the skull-crushing guitars and disco grooves “cooked in an avant-garde reduction sauce”.
One thing is for certain – with Dick Valentine still at the helm, their show at Concorde 2 will not be dull, even if all you are waiting for is the insanely catchy Gay Bar to surface.
