With a professional career beginning with the wartime variety group ENSA in 1943 through to a CBE last year from the Queen, Stan Tracey is a true giant of British jazz.
The names he has worked with as a collaborator and pianist at Ronnie Scott's celebrated club look like a who's who of jazz - from Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz and Zoot Sims to Charlie Rouse, Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts in his big band and Keith Tippett, whose 1977 collaboration with Tracey, Supernova, has just been released.
With 40 albums to his name featuring lots of self-composed music, Stan celebrated his 80th birthday in 2006 and is still going strong.
