The flop-fringed indie band to namedrop for the past six months, Foals are finally set to release their long-awaited first album on Monday, March 24.

The Oxford quintet, fronted by the diminutive Yannis Philippakis, recorded their debut, Antidotes, with TV On The Radio's David Sitek as producer - who apparently warned them before a note was laid down: "Don't come and see me if you want to make a conventional pop record."

From such Martin Hannett-style beginnings the band have continued in true Joy Division style by creating an album that doesn't feature their two early singles, Hummer and Mathletics.

The record, however, does feature the band's trademark insect-like guitar sound, brass arrangements and a combination of dance-infected beats and rock-influenced structures.

"We like all kinds of stuff," says Yannis. "Devo, Glen Branca, Battles, Arthur Russell, Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, electronica. We like taking the best bits of other music and forming a new whole. That's not an original idea, but I think what comes out of it is fresh."

Anyone pining for the old material will be glad to hear that a special edition of the album will include a second disc featuring all the material Foals have released to date.

This extra disc will also include a bootleg recording of their 3am appearance at the Transgressive party at last year's Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
