It’s easy to forget that Wakefield trio The Cribs have been with us for more than ten years.

For them to still sell as many records as they do in an industry where tastes change almost monthly is testament to their songwriting.

The numbers were thin at Eastbourne’s Winter Garden as the brothers took to the stage, but that didn’t seem to bother them as they launched into Chi Town from new album In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull.

“We’ve never played in Eastbourne before,” lead singer Ryan Jarman told the audience in his unmistakable Yorkshire accent. “It’s good to be here.”

Beer cans flew and sweaty teenage bodies collided as they played one of their trademark catchy guitar riffs at the start of fan favourite I’m A Realist.

The band featured a number of tracks from their new album but also played the likes of Another Number, Mirror Kissers and Hey Scenesters! from their seemingly neverending back catalogue.

Guitarist Ryan and bassist Gary appeared to be constantly on the verge of losing control, with younger brother Ross keeping them on script with his pounding drum beats.

The performance was chaotic, frenzied and raw. This may have been their last night of the tour and Eastbourne might not have been their greatest crowd, but the trio didn’t hold back.

Gary and Ryan bounded around the stage with Ross often playing while standing up.

The only shame was that the sound levels didn’t appear to be right, with the drums and bass drowning out the catchy guitar riffs that have made them so popular.

But after a decade of gigging, the band knew what they were doing. They haven’t lost their energy or songwriting ability and right now they are at the top of their game.

Here’s to another ten years.
