The tenth anniversary Here And Now show at the Brighton Centre had a great line-up, brilliant music and a fantastic atmosphere.

A Flock Of Seagulls started the programme, then Pepsi and Shirlie with strong voices. What they lacked in just missing some notes, they made up for in enthusiasm, getting some seated audience members dancing.

Midge Ure was fantastic, with an incredibly powerful voice. Vienna was amazing; most of the audience were up and singing along.

Belinda Carlisle was beautiful and enjoyable with her happy girlie pop, starting with a strong voice. Nobody seemed to mind that towards the end she missed a few notes.

Jason Donovan was a joy – funny, gorgeous and self-deprecating. He played an acoustic guitar duet singing Sealed With A Kiss and got huge cheers for Any Dream Will Do.

Boy George, topping the bill, was fabulous. In a glittering silver hat and black suit with sparkling silver sleeves, he performed a diverse selection of his hits, from Victims to Everything I Own, plus, of course, Karma Chameleon.

Jimmy Somerville’s performance stood out with his astounding, soaring voice. He was so much fun, with boundless energy. During Don’t Leave Me This Way, he brought his original duet partner Sarah Jane Morris to the stage.

The audience erupted with applause. The evening finished with Boy George, Jimmy Somerville, plus some of the ensemble in a highly entertaining version of Get It On. Midge Ure said he no longer thinks of this as 1980s music, “just good music”. Indeed!
