Performance company Box Clever produce a compact, fun packed and inventive adaptation of the Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol.
The classic story is narrated in a clever, shortened version which plays on the fact each member of the audience is already familiar with the story.
The meeting with the first ghost, Jacob Marley is one of the first scenes of the show. It could easily feel rushed but the trio of performers manage to mix, playfulness and the story together well, often engaging the audience while still in character.
However, at the risk of sounding like Scrooge myself, at points the audience participation is cringe-worthy and doesn't fit in with the story - at times veering off into silliness just for the sake of it.
It’s a well acted, cleverly choreographed production, but at points needlessly interrupted with forced fun.
If you're looking for a bit of panto fun at Christmas with the family then this show is for you.
But anyone looking forward to a nice relaxing evening, with dancing not on the agenda then this isn't the show for you: "Oh yes it is...oh no, it really really isn't"
