Mention of the new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn got a big cheer on the final night of this two-day festival.
But the most rousing reception quite rightly went to headliners William Parker/Hamid Drake/John Dikeman.
Double bassist Parker and drummer Drake have provided the powerhouse rhythm section of numerous ensembles for more than 30 years.
It shows - in avant-jazz, it could be argued, there is no time signature to nail down but between them they formed a fierce counterpoint to the tenor saxophone of Dikeman.
To these ears, the pieces were not grounded in chord arrangements but spun out from a cluster of notes, exploring pitch and mood. Harmolodic, as Ornette Coleman used to say.
The home team on this occasion was the West Hill Blast Quartet with Verity Spott on cello and the bill also included an impressively scaryfying set from Danish saxophonist Mette Rasmussen.
