Four plays by four female writers were staged in 60 minutes, featuring seven actresses and one man, with four directors.
With so much variety on display some patchiness was inevitable. The first piece, Are You There Though, a game of relationship musical chairs involving Sal and Jim, was compromised by Jim being almost inaudible throughout, the background music was simply too intrusive.
The Day Iain Duncan Smith Came Round For A Brew was much more successful. Two convincing characters humorously asked questions regarding unemployment and the State. Natalie Bridge showing herself to be both a promising writer and performer.
Battles Lines tackled women in the work-place but was the weakest offering on show.
The final piece, The Unfree, was set in a female prison. By far the most ambitious in its subject matter, this was essentially four monologues cut up, which may have worked better as separate pieces.
The evening came under the banner Greater Expectations. Very much works in progress, overall those involved must be credited for their ambitions, but stronger direction would have benefited the production overall.
