This small cast of youthful and vibrant actors, presented by Gin & Tonic productions, brings a fresh and intense energy to the timeless Shakespearian play.
With innovative staging, poignantly performed monologues and surprising character interpretations, this is a new look at Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy, one that will not fail to entice and excite.
The vivacious ensemble utilises the talents of only six actors, who are all casually dressed but their invigorated performances are anything but.
There is a notably energised performance from the lead Olivier Huband, who effortlessly portrays the strong and complicated character of Hamlet with extremely dramatic mannerisms and brutal outbursts, conveying the prince’s troubled mind brilliantly.
He indisputably steals the show, even when out of scene. Hamlet’s powerful monologues are delivered with great ingenuity; underplaying the most oft-quoted lines, while violently espousing others.
The cast are on stage throughout, utilising this modest platform to their advantage; this aspect very much adding to the clever theatrical methods adopted in this adaptation.
Touring Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe Festival, this compelling rendition is overflowing with passion and tragedy, brilliantly representing one man’s struggle with reality. It is a great success.
