I Believe In Unicorns is a magical and captivating show celebrating the joy of stories and books in an beautifully performed, multi-layered and surprising show.
Storyteller Danyah Miller entranced her audience of children and adults with a spell-binding story about a little boy Tomas who doesn’t like reading or books.
At first, it appears the show will be a story-telling performance until we discover the books surrounding Miller are, in fact, deftly prepared props.
She manages to use the books as stepping stones, a mountain and a swimming pool as she describes how Tomas would rather play in the natural world. And then, as if by miracle, she discovers treasures within the books – a box of chocolates, books within books and a long Chinese parasol.
The story meanders through other tales with lighting and music changing emotions and themes quickly and effectively.
Miller provides a joyful, physical but controlled presence and when the mood turns darker, manages to push the rapt audience to genuine emotion with a tale of war, fire and bravery.
Produced by Wizard Presents, the story of I Believe in Unicorns is written by Michael Morpugo.
However it is the original presentation of the story which transforms the show into one which made children gasp in wonder and parents cry.
The show is coming to Worthing on June 21 at the Connaught Theatre and I would urge parents to book now for a wonderful hour of entertainment.
