If Pete And The Pirates - to which three of Teleman belonged - were proud practitioners of dance-along indie disco delights, then their new outfit are more like the wiser older brother, standing at the bar and playing it cool.
Where once they willingly rallied through floor-filling student-night tunes - albeit with a sophisticated and knowing edge - Thomas and Johnny Sanders and bassist Pete Cattermole now prefer to take a more measured approach. But it is no less impressive.
Nowadays the trio, joined by drummer Hiro Amamiya, sneakily worm their tunes into your head, rather than knock you out with overtly killer hooks.
Playing to a sold-out venue, they showed that understated electronics, crisp bass and falsetto-ish vocals can, when cleverly combined, be an engrossing proposition.
Highlights were 23 Floors Up, which summed up the misery of living out of a soulless hotel room yet married it to a fat wedge of pop perfection, and the sleazy bass-fuelled finale Not In Control, which saw them shake off the shackles of their previously pent-up restraint. As Teleman, the ex-Pirates have finally found their treasure.
