On Tuesday night at The Haunt, Pure Love ensured that their brief existence will not be forgotten.
In the midst of their farewell tour, Frank Carter and co brought down the curtain in unforgiving style.
Anyone who thought Carter’s onstage antics would have lessened since his departure from hardcore punk outfit Gallows would be very much mistaken. Along with lead guitarist Jim Carroll, he spent most of his time in the crowd. He ensured the audience was as much of a part of the show as the band, with stage invasions and crowd surfing the norm throughout.
Singles Handsome Devils’ Club and Bury My Bones produced an animalistic response from the crowd, the latter saw half the audience on stage.
However, rather surprisingly, the highlight was their impromptu cover of Huey Lewis And The News’s 1980s classic The Power of Love.
Frank Carter, who looked like a bearded ginger geisha, thanked the audience countless times and encouraged them to get on their best friend’s shoulders.
Evidently his aggression has dampened but he is still one of the best frontmen of the 21st century.
The crowd at The Haunt will have been hoping their indefinite hiatus isn’t for too long.
