Author and illustrator Marcia Williams has a highly successful career introducing children to Shakespeare, Greek myths and Ancient Egypt.
Her joyful cartoon illustrations capture the excitement of the old classics bringing them up to date for a modern audience.
She talked about her work to an eager audience at the Sallis Benney Theatre as part of the 26 Letters festival about literature for children.
Williams took time to discuss her Shakespeare work by explaining the plot with the use of some of her young audience.
She then moved on to discuss her beautiful new book about the Second World War called Archie’s War. The book, written in the style of a scrapbook, follows a ten-year-old East End boy through the war with his family.
She explained how she started her writing and illustrating when sending letters home from boarding school.
The event ended with a Q&A session with many of her young fans eager to ask lots of questions. Williams aimed the event squarely at the children in the audience, encouraging them to become authors and illustrators and telling them what fun she has doing what she loves best.
