Going to see The Lady Boys Of Bangkok – like bumping into Chris Eubank or having your chips pinched by a seagull – is something of a Brighton rite of passage.

So after eight years of living in the city, it was high time to visit the white marquee that sets up in Victoria Gardens each year for the Brighton Fringe.

Titled Red Hot Kisses, the production is a dazzling mix of showgirl outfits, innuendo and a playlist that wouldn’t be out of place at a wedding disco.

The glamorous Thai performers strut and shimmy across the stage with confidence, while panto-style skits and audience participation provide the laughs.

As comedian Ole prowls the audience for a willing victim, lip curling in delight, you’d better make sure your eyes are fixed firmly on the floor.

This is entertainment at its simplest and most fun – silly dance routines and lip-syncing to pop hits old and new. The Miley Cyrus gag involving a dwarf and a gym ball was a particular highlight.

One of the lyrics from a song about a glamour girl saying she’d got “Max Clifford on speed dial” was a little unfortunate, and some of the comedy sections could be shortened to maintain the pace.

However, this wasn’t enough to detract from the feelgood atmosphere and a riotous evening of good, not-so-clean fun.
