The enthusiasm was there from the start in the form of DJ Monski Mouse plus her two dancing sidekicks Tessa and Nick, not to mention scores of eager, excited toddlers, but unfortunately, the sound system kept failing.
The disco began 20 minutes late because the generator had broken and sadly five minutes in it happened again, then again.
It killed the lights and the music but it couldn’t kill the spirit and smiles of the entertainers who kept their focus solely on their clientele of tots in sparkly party frocks and dressing up outfits.
Monski Mouse improvised with some exercises and nursery rhymes before a handy bystander, Jools, came to the rescue for 15 minutes, professionally playing some upbeat numbers on a piano which seemed to be pulled out of thin air temporarily, but which the bemused parents seemed to particularly enjoy.
After these hiccups it was game on again as Monski Mouse led the little ones through a version of Wigglywoo followed by the Conga, Sleeping Bunnies and Nelly The Elephant, enhanced by disco lights.
Monski Mouse thanked everyone for sticking around through the technical difficulties and informed the trio will be doing two more shows in Brighton later in May. She suggested people, “Come and see what we’re normally like”.
However, despite first day of the Fringe teething troubles, the DJ with her hair designed in Mini Mouse style ears and the group’s 1950s dance-hall style outfits suited the retro-venue and, regardless of the disruption, their simple playfulness and energy kept the little ones happy with or without the electronics.
