Herz Frank proves reactions are equally as entertaining as performance in his short film 10 Minutes Older.
The close-up shots of children’s faces in the silent movie sparked laughs and entranced silence from the audience at Duke Of York’s as the young subjects gasped in horror, cried in fear, laughed and chatted.
The White Balloon was a joyful film by Jafar Panahi based in Tehran, Iran, depicting young Razieh’s day of adventure in her quest for a new goldfish – a chubby one with four fins which looks like it’s dancing when it swims – despite their own “skinny” goldfish in their pond being requested by all the neighbours.
After sulking to her stressed mother, Razieh’s brother finally convinces her to hand over the last of the family’s money for a new fish. But the short journey from their home to the pet shop is full of incidents and adventure.
A beautiful film which explores the difficulties of childhood through the eyes of knowing adults.
