Since 2000, classically trained double bassist Sneaky and DMC finalist Peter Parker have been collaboratively known as Fingathing.

They’ve taken something of a hiatus for the past eight years while focusing on solo projects, so it was a surprise to see they’re gigging again. Joining them for some dates are Peanut Butter Wolf and Ugly Duckling, but the Brighton show was just about Thing On Tour.

Parker has long been regarded as an outstanding DJ and turntablist, but it’s the onstage addition of Sneaky’s mesmerizing live bass that makes this show so special and, even after more than a decade, very original.

Bathed in the light of their live AV show – which featured grinning goats and a violin-playing Grim Reaper, among other images – Sneaky and Parker raced through old classics and funked-up interpretations of their early tracks. There were also new songs for the pleased ears of the assembled crowd.

Fingathing’s new EP, Return Of The Thing, is released today and from what we saw at The Green Door Store, it’s set to be a mixture of reintroduction and experimentation, from two of the most unique and talented musicians on the scene.
