Heisenberg would have been thrilled to hear the Breaking Bad theme tune opening Kids In Glass Houses’ set on Tuesday.
Springing fresh from the release of their new album Peace on Monday, the band’s inspired opening gave a nod to the final episode of the hit TV show, which also graced UK screens on Monday.
A surprise support act was American pop punk band Cartel, whose performance almost outshone the headliners.
Singer Will Pugh’s pitch-perfect voice and the three-chord almost punk riffs hit a high note before the headliners.
But the UK’s answer to Jimmy Eat World seem to be deviating from the sound they set out with five years ago.
Set Me Free followed the current popular movement for dance music and other tunes drifted towards stadium rock.
It took 50 minutes for the five-piece – dressed in white and grey T-shirts which were more boy band than rockers – to pick up the pace and really get the crowd moving.
Their final songs, Give Me What I Want from 2008 album Smart Casual, and Matters At All, from 2010 album Dirt, were the songs that really sent the crowd wild.
Let’s hope the rest of the new album harps back to the five-piece’s early days.
