If the litmus test for a Pink Floyd tribute act was the performance of the female vocalist on The Great Gig In The Sky then The UK Pink Floyd Experience would be right up there with the very best.

The eight-piece band, supplemented by Paul Devereux on sax, delivered two hours of painstakingly reconstructed Floyd, covering the Barrett, Waters and Gilmour dynasties.

This was middle-aged heaven. You could close your eyes and be 14 again. The musicianship was slick, while Paul Andrews’ Gilmour vocal was uncanny.

If you had never heard a note of Pink Floyd before then this show would have turned you on to their music. If you had never seen Pink Floyd live then this might be the closest you ever get – for a fraction of the price, and in Eastbourne.

Unlike The Rolling Stones, for example, The Floyd have never had a frontman, so it is the music rather than the personalities that provide authenticity.

The UK Pink Floyd Experience does what it says on the tin and give you the experience. The second half drew almost entirely on the seminal Dark Side Of The Moon album, and no disservice was done.

Floydists might point a finger and mutter “Soulless”. Eastbourne whooped and staggered to their feet in appreciation.
