Perhaps it’s not even true but it’s a good title. Curiosity is generally more than idle at the suggestion of women behaving badly; the imagination was whetted by this unusual line-up.

This extraordinary show offered a snapshot of both the lives and minds of three very different women. GI idol Marilyn Monroe grew out of a childhood taken care of by 12 sets of foster parents; Mo Mowlam’s feisty no-nonsense approach in Northern Ireland earned her an ovation to overshadow Tony Blair; and Aileen Wuornos unashamedly opened fire on the men who she claimed raped her.

This was so much more, though, than the sum of its parts. The star of the show was unreservedly Caroline Curran who, in quick succession, literally transformed into each character, every one convincing in her guise – she excelled at Wuornos in orange prison suit, handcuffs and leg chains, pulling no punches for our sensitive sakes: ‘I’m going to heaven’ she threatened, sending shivers down the spine.

The set, skilfully prepared, did as well for Marilyn’s boudoir as it did for Mowlam’s office and Wuornos’s cell. To finish, a lovely tribute to many women who have bucked expectations gave time to catch the breath.

Bravo!
