According to Historic England, the original part of the house was built for prominent lawyer William Ryman in 1410.
English architect and historian Walter Godfrey extensively remodelled the earlier building in 1913. He also restored a number of important historic buildings and gardens including Chelsea Old Church, the Memorial Chapel at Eton College and Herstmonceux Castle.
The spacious main suite includes a bedroom, dressing area, bathroom and views of the formal garden, while the first floor provides four additional bedrooms, two bathrooms, two WCs.
Another bedroom, accessed by its own staircase, is located on the second floor.
The house also includes two cottages - Rymans Cottage and The Old Stables.
Rymans Cottage, which is approached via its own gravel driveway, comprises three bedrooms, a hall, sitting room, kitchen, utility room, bathroom and large private garden
The Old Stables was converted by the current owners and comprises three bedrooms, a hall, sitting room, kitchen, bathroom, shower room and garden.
The front door of the main home leads to an entrance hall with stone floors, open fireplace and beam ceilings.
The house also features a study, sitting room, domestic offices, kitchen, utility room and butler’s pantry with walk-in larder.
The gardens to the south of the property are a parterre with low box hedging, roses and lavender, a central armillary sphere by David Harber and a peaceful sitting area.
Stone steps lead down to a walled garden which features two polygonal lily ponds linked by a canal.
The house offers numerous other garden areas, including the fine poplar avenue which is flanked by pasture on either side. There is also an area of woodland and kitchen garden with three greenhouses.
The property is located three miles South West of Chichester city centre.
